Porsche Cup Knockhill  24/08/2007

Scotland next for Caine and Paragon

Michael Caine will head north for rounds 17 and 18 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at the Knockhill track near Dunfermline over the weekend of 1/2 September.

Newmarket racing driver Caine is racing for Sussex-based Paragon Porsche this season and currently lies fourth in the overall championship standings in his 400bhp Porsche 911GT3 Cup car, which is prepared by Team Parker Racing.

He has scored podium results in eight races this season, but that first Carrera Cup victory continues to elude him. Now comes the annual trip to the challenging Scottish track, where weather conditions can be very variable. Last year, rain showers just before both Carrera Cup races made tyre choice really difficult and Caine is prepared for a similar situation this time around.

"Knockhill is a fantastic track," says Caine. "Racing in Scotland is absolutely great and everyone up there loves their racing." However, he does have one bad memory of racing at the moorland track. "I've usually done okay at Knockhill, but in one GT race a few years ago the TVR I was driving burst into flames just as I went into the pits!"

Caine currently has a 19-point lead over fifth-placed Sam Hancock in the points' table and is aiming to consolidate that position with just four races left in the 2007 championship season. After Knockhill, the teams have a six-week gap before the season finishes with two races at Thruxton (Hampshire) on 13/14 October.

After qualifying on Saturday morning at Knockhill, the opening Carrera Cup race will run at 4.45pm, followed by the second race at 11.35am on Sunday. Carrera Cup highlights from Knockhill will be shown on ITV1 in the near future (times to be confirmed).
