Caine and Paragon head to Brands Hatch
Michael Caine will race at the home track of Paragon Porsche in rounds 15 and 16 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch in Kent over the weekend of 18/19 August.
Having started the season at Brands Hatch back in April, the Carrera Cup pack will return for two more races as the season heads into final stages. After the pair of races on the 1.2-mile Indy circuit at Brands, just four races will remain in the 2007 schedule.
Newmarket racing driver Caine is racing for Sussex-based Paragon Porsche this season and currently lies fourth in the overall championship standings in his 400bhp Porsche 911GT3 Cup car, which is prepared by Team Parker Racing. He has scored podium results in seven races this season, but that first Carrera Cup victory continues to elude him.
At Brands in April Caine finished second and now wants to go one better. However, he says Brands is one of the toughest tracks on the calendar. "It’s a hard, hard place and it's all about qualifying well," says Caine. With overtaking very difficult on the tight circuit, grid position is all-important. "Qualifying is maybe more important than the race. You’ve got to try and start on the front row. If you are three-tenths of a second off the pace, you are a long way off."
Although it is tough for the drivers, the Brands Hatch Indy circuit is a fantastic place for the sponsors and the fans to watch, as much of the circuit can be seen from the spectator areas. After qualifying on Saturday morning, the opening Carrera Cup race will run at 5.35pm, followed by the second race at 2.50m on Sunday.
All of Sunday's action will be broadcast live on the Setanta satellite TV channel and Carrera Cup highlights will be shown on ITV1 in the near future (times to be confirmed).
