Purdie set for Carrera Cup final

Andy Purdie will conclude his 2006 racing season in the Paragon Porsche entry in rounds 19 and 20 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Silverstone this weekend (14/15 October).

The Maidstone-based driver has spent the season racing the Paragon Porsche-entered 911GT3 Cup in the high-profile championship that runs as a major support race to the British Touring Car Championship and will now head to Silverstone for the final race weekend of the 2006 season.

Although he missed four races early in the season while finishing university exams, Andy's form in recent races has been so strong that he now heads to Silverstone with a chance of finishing in the final top three of the pro-am category.  Although Phil Quaife cannot be caught for the pro-am title, Andy could even grab second place from Nigel Rice if things went extremely well for him and very badly for Rice.

More likely, however, is that he could edge ahead of David Ashburn to finish third in pro-am. Currently, Ashburn has a five-point advantage, but Purdie's form through the summer suggests he could well overhaul Ashburn at Silverstone.

But Andy needs to watch for other drivers as well, as Jason Young and Mike Richards are not far behind him in the points' table.  The Carrera Cup pack has a 28-lap race on each day at Silverstone and Sunday's race will be broadcast live on Motors TV during the British Touring Car Championship coverage. Sunday's race is due to start at 3pm.
