Thruxton finale for Caine and Paragon

Michael Caine will conclude his 2007 campaign in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at the Thruxton track near Andover in Hampshire over the weekend of 13/14 October.

Newmarket racing driver Caine has been racing for Sussex-based Paragon Porsche this season and currently lies fourth in the overall championship standings in his 400bhp Porsche 911GT3 Cup car, which is prepared by Team Parker Racing.

He has scored ten podium finishes in the 18 races so far this season, but that first Carrera Cup victory continues to elude him. Now comes the dauntingly fast Thruxton circuit as the season concludes after a six-week break since the previous race weekend at Knockhill.

Caine currently has a 23-point lead over Sam Hancock in the points' table and looks strong to consolidate fourth position in the final standings. If Steven Kane has another bad weekend, Michael could yet snatch third place from the Irish racer, but really needs Kane to fail to finish either race.

"It will be very, very interesting at Thruxton, with the Carrera Cup title going down to the wire. We need to find a bit more pace there, we haven’t been particularly good round there so far," he says. "I just wish we were in the battle for the title!"

After qualifying on Saturday morning at Thruxton, the opening Carrera Cup race will run at 4.30pm, followed by the second race at 2.30pm on Sunday. Carrera Cup highlights from Thruxton will be shown on ITV1 in the near future (times to be confirmed), while the entire Sunday BTCC race day will be broadcast live on the Setanta channel.
