Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Goodwood festival was a fantastic event this year as Porsche were celebrating their 60th Anniversary and Lola were celebrating their 50th
Paragon had the honour of representing both marques, Mark Sumpter driving our Porsche 962 and Andy Purdie driving his R-90.
The Goodwood hill is a 1.16 mile tight and twisty road so not ideal for 800 bhp Le Mans cars but we had great fun and completed six runs each.

The Ultimate Porsche 962

Paragon has acquired the best developed Porsche 962 Group C car and plan to race all 12 of the 2007 Group C/GTP races.
The car is the last Porsche to win a round of the world championship, when Bob Wollek won at Dijon in 1989. That was the only race not to be won by Mercedes that season. It also won the 1989 Supercup Championship in the hands of Wollek.
"Joest Racing Team developed the car with the help of the Porsche factory staff and wind tunnel and then raced it competitively in America until 1993" said Sumpter, "we will run the car in its 1993 specification". Among the changes over a basic 962 is greater downforce, with changes to the floor and rear wing. The car was developed to compete against the Nissans in GTP and was raced at Daytona by Danny Sullivan.
The car was taken to victory at Spa last summer by American racer Aaron Hsu in Group C/GTP, with Sumpter second in his previous 962. "It disappeared away from me at Spa" said Sumpter, who later had the chance to buy the car and didn`t need to be asked twice.
"This is the ultimate Porsche Group C car and Porsche is what we do".

Micheal Caine to contest Carrera Cup for Paragon

Micheal caine is the latest major contender to unveil his 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign after signing to race with the support of Paragon Porsche.
"I`m very pleased to confirm our support for Micheal in the Carrera Cup," says Paragon Boss Mark sumpter. "I hope he has a succesfull season and i think he has a good chance of winning the championship."
Micheal Caine from Newmarket finished sixth in his dbut Carrera Cup last year, and now believes that the support of Sussex based Paragon Porsche will allow him to mount a serious challenge for the tittle. The former TVR tuscan and GT ace will head a three car team from the Team Parker Racing squad that has taken Damien Faulkner to the last two Carrera Cup titles. The relationship between team boss Stuart Parker and Caine goes back a decade and they have always wanted to team up. " Ive known Stuart a long time and we always said that one year i`d race for them," said Caine. "I always wanted to try and do it, Tim harvey feels that he is with the best team for 2007 and also i feel that i am with the best team."
Parker is delighted to have confirmed his lead driver, "Micheal was on pole for my last ever race in a caterham," said Parker. "He`s the reason i retired from driving and concentrated on the team becuase i decided that if i could`nt beat him, i should retire!" The team has recently traveled to Magny Cours for an extended test session and will now start testing in Britain. "I think the backing of Paragon will give Micheal the impetus he needs to go for the title,"said Sumpter
Although he is moving on from contesting the Carrera Cup, 2006 Paragon racer Andy Purdie will remain part of the Paragon Porsche racing campaign, and further details will be announced shortly.

Carbon Fibre wheels for your Porsche

Part of our new Design Tek range of products are Carbon Fibre wheels. The wheels are made of a forged magnesium hub, the hub is then fastened to a carbon fibre rim by specially coated titanium fastners. The carbon rim is made from a very special process. The process uses a solid metal mould which ensures the wheels are made to a very close tolerence of accuracy. This also gives them a very high quality durable finish which is resistant to brake dust, salt and usual forms of corrosion. Carbon fibre in this form is not only very strong, but it is also quite resistant to shock and thus will withstand potholes better than magnesium. The centres can be colour coded to your car for added impact. Please contact our Service manager Mick Clare for further details on these wheels and other Design Tek products avaliable.

The announcement coincides with Pirtek’s announcement that it is to sponsor the former treble-winning Pirtek Tigers speedway team for a fourth consecutive year and comes hot on the heels of the enormous success of the Pirtek-sponsored V8 supercar driven by Marcos Ambrose in the V8 Supercar Championship in Pirtek’s native Australia.

1993 Supercup VIP car-Mika Hakkinen
Monaco Race winner
Porsche`s 911 had a special award on its 30th birthday, a new race series, the Porsche Supercup was created.
With an exciting programme of six grand prix support races and two within the German Touring Car Championship the series attracted full grids with 30 identical Carrera 2`s all built by Porsche at Weissach. They and their drivers competed for individual honours, teams and nations trophies too.
At the Monaco Grand Prix former rally champion Walter Rohl was allocated one of the VIP cars and rock star Chris Rea was allocated the other but he withdrew just before the start of the race weekend so his car was re-allocated to Mika Hakkinen.
Neither in qualifying, nor in the race did Hakkinen even hint that he`d never driven a Porsche before setting the fastest lap times all weekend! Hakkinen led the race from start to finish.
The Tag Heuer livery was on the car just for that race weekend.
When Brian Cowen purchased this car from Paragon, Mark Sumpter had recently raced it at Brands Hatch so it was in full "Paragon" livery. After seeing a picture of the " Hakkinen Car" in a book Brian decided to have Paragon replicate the design for his car which made sense as it has always been white and was from the same batch of cars.
