The timeless design of the 928 Series
maintained its appeal for almost two decades. Over this
period, the 928 received minor exterior modifications in order to
retain its styling continuity. However, the engine and
components gained much greater attention to benefit from Porsche's
constant technical innovations. The engine size increased from
its original 4.7 litre to the vast power reserve of the 5.4 litre
version that powered the 928 GTS. From the very beginning the
928 was a born leader, becoming the first ever sports car to claim
the accolade "Car of the Year" in 1978, one year after its launch.
The 928 is one of the finest examples
of a "Gran Tourismo" with its superb performance, high specification
and exclusive appeal. It has rightly earned its place in the
Porsche "hall of fame" and to those discerning individuals whose
loyalty remained firmly with the 928, it will remain one of the
Porsche's all-time classics.
